Help me give my students a variety of literacy center activities and tools. In our class, I'm always on the hunt for quality literature activities that are hands on for students to explore, discover, and work together on.
I'm about to embark on my fourteenth year of teaching at a Title I urban school in Manchester, NH. Our school has a diverse population serving students with a broad range of needs from socio-emotional to academic.
We are an award winning school who never stops looking for opportunities to grow and benefit students.
Our staff knows what it takes to make learning fun and create a safe and inviting environment for our students. We are innovative and risk takers. We are leaders of new ideas and models for other schools in our district who often come to observe what is going on in our school.
This project would help support our learning throughout the school year. Each of the three office supply items are key "tools of the trade". They each offer support in making our learning environment organized and efficient. Saving time throughout the day using these key tools will open doors for me to use my planning period or after school time to best serve these students. Being able to use these office tools immediately as we need them will provide our day to continue going smoothly as we can get the students what they need.
My Project
In my Kindergarten classroom, we use literacy centers as a fun hands on approach to develop and build upon early reading skills. My students foster a love of learning to read with this fun, developmentally appropriate, and friendly way of introducing key pre reading skills.
We will build upon the foundational skills of letter identification and sounds, sight words, retelling stories, and other early reading skills with these interactive center activities.
My students love the variety and I love the way the academic skills are hidden and embedded within the fun games. The centers are open to individual tasks, partner tasks, or small groups. The flexibility is key for planning and preparing various centers.
I am so excited to introduce fresh centers to the students and am eager to continue our learning!
