This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies...The man who never reads lives only one." George R.R. Martin so beautifully explains in his novel the Power of a Book. As a teacher, one of my jobs is to plant a seed that will flourish as a love for reading throughout my students lives.

We have students from very diverse backgrounds that attend our school.

My kindergarteners are lively and curious. They are playful and they are so excited to learn. Through our curriculum, I try to challenge my students as well as really plant the seed for their love of learning and reading.

My Project

My students need headphones, splitters and new books for our listening center. It is my vision to have a compact, portable listening center. I want my group at that center to be able to decide a spot they are able to focus best in the classroom and move the center to their to listen to the story. Not only will they be able to have a portable listening center, they will be getting new books to go along with it. This will help me in not having to repeat books throughout the year and expose my students to a variety of reading materials. I want them to read as many books as possible during the school year and be excited each week to see what we will be listening to. Incorporating technology also helps them develop skills that they need for the twenty first century. We currently have an iPad for our listening center, but the rest of our supplies are limited so they are unable to really fulfill my vision of it being portable.

This will allow my students to practice independence as well as really growing their love of reading.

Through this project they will have access to more books and have many tools to help us keep our listening center going throughout the year.
