Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have been blessed with 22 curious, eager, and hardworking Kindergarteners. Our school is a Title I, magnet school in an urban setting where over 60 percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. My students come from diverse backgrounds, economic situations, and family dynamics.
Half of my class comes from homes where English is not their first language, and many are not exposed to the English language outside of the school setting.
However, my students come to school each and every day ready to learn, work hard, and actively participate in all subject areas. Simply put, they enjoy the wonders of learning!
My Project
It is hard to believe that we have already been in school for just over 50 days. My students have been working hard, having fun, and thriving given the current circumstances of Covid-19 and a hybrid teaching and learning model. They are the true superheroes! On the 100th day of school, we traditionally celebrate with a 100th day snack, small group, and partner games, as well as an oral sharing of a 100th day project. Unfortunately, our celebration must take a different approach this year.
My students deserve to celebrate their hard work, accomplishments, and this memorable milestone!
I am requesting 100th day materials such as glasses that my students would be able to color how they choose to. Also requested are 100th day medals and rubber bracelets which they can proudly wear to show their completion of the first 100 days of school. The 100th day search card will be used as part of our many hundredth day academic activities already planned. To further celebrate them, the paw print drawstring bags, paw print stampers, pencils, and notepads will be presented to each of my students at the end of the school day along with a certificate.
Thank you for considering our project to celebrate my amazing kindergartners who have been more than brave and flexible during these uncertain times.
