Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have been blessed with 22 curious, eager, and hard working Kindergartners. Our school is a Title I Magnet School in an urban setting where over 60 percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. My students come from diverse backgrounds, economic situations, and family dynamics.
Half of my class come from homes where English is not their first language and many are not exposed to the English language outside of the school setting.
However, my students come to school each and every day ready to learn, work hard and actively participate in all subject areas. Simply put, they enjoy the wonders of learning!
My Project
My students absolutely love to participate in creative activities. They are always asking to make new projects and use fun materials. Unfortunately, some of the materials used to complete those projects have quickly been consumed.
Without the appropriate resources, my students are not able to share their learning creatively.
The items requested in this project will give my students the opportunity to have supplies readily available as well as organized. The pencil boxes will be used to create project tool boxes which would store their scissors, glue sticks and crayons. The dry erase markers would be used during small group instruction to create quick illustrations and writing responses. The craft trays would help my students keep their craft materials safe and organized while working on their projects. The paint sticks, chart markers and diffusing paper have been very popular in our classroom and we no longer have any available. These items would definitely excite my students once again if they were to be restocked!
