Do you remember how wonderful it was to listen to stories as a child?

My students are in need of a listening center that can make reading fun! I am a Kindergarten teacher who believes in providing learning opportunities that are engaging, that reflect the needs of my students, and that address multiple intelligences. My class consists of twenty eight students. Most of my students are English Language Learners. Our school is an urban public school district in CA. We are a first year, K-5 public elementary STEAM academy, with a high percentage of students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. The focus of our school is on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.

My Project

Centers are fun and enhance learning. I am requesting a listening center, head phones and an adapter which will allow multiple students to use this center at once. A listening center will allow my students to be able to listen to songs and books on a daily basis, thus infusing our literacy program with technology and the arts. What a wonderful way to get learners excited about reading! A listening center would provide my students with a daily opportunity to practice listening skills, reading strategies, and acquire more academic vocabulary. The listening center will enable my students to follow along or read a book while listening to a story.

Listening is a vital skill that we practice in Kindergarten.

The listening center will foster a love for reading while accommodating auditory learners. The listening center would provide ELLs authentic experiences with the English language.
