Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a beautiful group pre-k students in Providence, RI. They enjoy music, gross motor activities, center play, and being a part of their school community. We do our best to adapt everything we do to meet the unique needs of our students.

I have a very diverse group of learners.

My students are medically fragile with very significant learning needs. My students are all nonverbal and non-ambulatory. Many of my students are visually impaired. I also have students who are deaf and hearing impaired. We use a lot of assistive technology to give our students a voice and access the curriculum with more independence. Preschool is all about learning through play. It is very important to have centers with appropriate material to help the students explore and learn. It would be great to improve the quality of their centers with new resources.

My Project

Our current art center is not as inspirational as it could be. We are lucky enough to have art material to use. Unfortunately, we do not have a proper storage unit to hold our stuff. We need a new supply storage area where our little artists can safely and easily access multiple art mediums. It is important to display multiple mediums, because it encourages the students to explore and create unique works of art. Many of the students have hearing and/or vision impairments. It is important for them to see/feel the material in order to use their imagination and creativity.
