My students need a class set of "Little House on the Prairie" by Laura Ingalls Wilder and ancillary books to enrich their understanding of the time and place of the story.
Big City meets the Country Path... help my students breathe the fresh air and smell the wild flowers through the love of Laura's story. Help my kids understand that reading is a way to open their minds to worlds that really do exist beyond the paved ground of the city!
My students are 3rd graders who often are 2 years behind in their reading levels.
They need every possible opportunity to connect with as many kinds of literature as possible. The "Little House" series is specifically chosen because it gives my students a view into a world in the past that is very different than the one they know today. The ancillary materials will help give a deeper understanding of what life was like on the prairies in that time and will help them look at the differences between where they live now and how Laura lived in the past.
My Project
Let my students live the life Laura did on the prairie! Give them the chance to read what it was like for her - and how life was like without the gadgets and gizmos of our times. Allow my students to learn about family connections and the importance of hard work through the trials and tribulations of Laura!
My students very rarely get to read stories that are historically set in a time period very different form their own.
Let my students connect to the past by reading such a rich story of Laura Ingalls Wilder.
