My Project

My students are bright, curious, and creative Deaf and Hard of Hearing children in PreK–2nd grade. They are learning through both American Sign Language (ASL) and English, and hands-on experiences are essential for building their language, literacy, and learning skills. Because many of my students are still developing fine motor strength, they benefit from activities that combine art, play, and purposeful practice.

This project will provide materials that blend art with fine motor development.

With pom-poms, beads, craft sticks, clothespins, crayons, googly eyes, and foam stickers, my students will strengthen their fingers and hand muscles while creating imaginative projects. Easy-clean trays, paint palettes, and laminating sheets will help us keep our activities organized and long-lasting.

Activities will include scooping, pinching, and sorting with pom-poms, tweezers, and clothespins to strengthen grasp and coordination. Students will also practice cutting, gluing, and beading with colorful craft supplies to build hand-eye coordination. Drawing and coloring with jumbo crayons and construction paper will improve grip and creativity, while collaborative art projects with people-shape cutouts, foam stickers, and magnetic displays will foster teamwork and communication.

These multisensory activities not only build motor skills but also support early language growth. As students describe their projects in ASL and English, they are connecting vocabulary to real experiences, making learning meaningful and lasting. By funding this project, you are giving my students opportunities to build independence, confidence, and creativity. Strengthening fine motor skills now will help them with future tasks such as writing, signing fluently, and managing daily life skills.
