Little Gardens for Little Growers (Life Science/ Life Cycle)
My students need supplies for outdoor exploration and indoor investigation of life cycles. We need plants, seeds, fish, soil, fertilizer, aquarium, and greenhouse.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are being challenged by participating in an early childhood science program called BLOCKS. As a teacher researcher, I introduce my student to science through outdoor and indoor exploration. The students investigate the life cycle of plants, frogs, chicks, and their own physical growth.
My class is full of pre-kinder busy bees.
They are eager to learn, see and do. I enjoy reading to my class because they can not wait to tell me about the story or what they think could happen. My scholars participate in the observation and the investigation of the life cycle of plants and will continue throughout the year, observing the class garden plots. We will also follow a similar path with frogs, the incubation of baby chicks and the butterfly life cycle. We read numerous books weekly or by-weekly of our thematic unit(example- Growing Things)and I enhance their learning by adding science to our daily routines.
Each student has participated in preparing several plots for our gardens and are very excited to see what happens as they water, weed, protect and take care of the site. We are also excited about getting fish and an aquarium. The students attend an inner city school which promotes and Eco friendly academic community and maintains high standards for all children.
My Project
The resources that I am requesting will directly enhance students learning. Students will use all of the potting soil and seeds in our gardens and in our classroom plant observation. The garden plots, aquarium and fish will allow pre-kinder students to draw their observation of the habitats and write letters and small words to label their data collection. The living organisms will be a continuation of the life cycle exploration. Fish and an aquarium will not only beautify our class but allow student to care for them. The greenhouse will be a great tool for observation and journal writing. Students will learn the various parts of a plant, what plants need to live and grow, how fish eat, where fish live and how to care for the living organisms.
Pre-Kinder students have an opportunity to go beyond the realm of language development, phonemic awareness and math concepts.
Our class will explore various life cycles, participate in experiments, investigations and data collection. The results have been awesome. My scholars will be preparing for life long learning beyond kindergarten and first grade. The opportunity to challenge my students is fabulous and exciting for me as well as my scholars.
