Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are preschoolers with special needs. Many of them are on the Autism Spectrum. I am a firm believer in developing a love of books and reading no matter your age or ability.

My students are exposed to a variety of appropriate books from day one.

I teach my students how to hold books appropriately, how to point to pictures, how to turn pages and most importantly, how to sit and attend to a story being read to them.

The above comes naturally when I have a variety of high interest books! My students love board books with vibrant pictures, touch and feel pages and repetitive story lines. Because we have free read time every day, our books have become "well loved" and many need to be replaced. We would love to have more books available to continue our love of reading!
