Mrs. K. from Sacramento CA is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

Literature Books to Give Students Options to Read More!

My students need 47 relevant and interest sparking books to read for the independent reading requirement in 7th grade.

  • $561 goal

This project expired on January 31, 2011.

Hooray! This project is fully funded

My Students

Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book you couldn't put down? I want my students to have many books to choose from in the classroom that will develop and extend a love for reading. Their experience in the language arts classroom should be one that includes many books.

The students are in middle school facing many challenges in their lives.

There is no public library nearby for them to check out books. They are kids just wanting to fit in, regardless of where they come from. They may be in special ed, or being raised by other people other than parents, or they may be homeless, or may not have many books in the home available to read. Opportunities to get to the school library are seldom leaving students to try and go before or after school. They need more opportunities to read.

My Project

Having a classroom library allows them to see what types of books may interest them and allows the teacher to make more connections with the students. These resources will allow me to give book talks with the students to peak their interest in reading. My students will learn to appreciate independent reading as more than just a requirement, but as life long learners and readers.

As students walk through my doors this September, I want them to enter a language arts classroom that is print rich with many opportunities to broaden their reading experiences.

They should be able to see bookshelves with reading books, rather than empty ones. The books will be used by students year after year. Students will be able to write book reviews to leave for future students. They will get to suggest more books to buy to expand the classroom library! Thank you for your support!
