The school I work at is in a small district and is a low-income school. Many of the children that come to my classroom each day are entering the room and using it as a safe haven to get away from life outside of school.
My students this year love being challenged and are always looking for new and exciting ways to learn.
As a teacher, I always feel responsible for each child that is with me every day. In our classroom, we understand that we are a family and we know that our time spent together is precious so we always take advantage of every moment. I love being able to reach each child in their own individual way and watching their creativity come to life when they are learning and excited about it. At our school, we make sure we take care of each other and my hope is that my students will transfer this to the outside world as well.
My Project
I would like for the students in my classroom to have easier access to the books in our classroom library. I am requesting this mobile library because not only can the library be moved around the room to make it more accessible to students, but students can also take the tubs of books to their working area. For example, if a student is working on a research project about animals he or she could get the animal tub and take those books to their area and complete the research versus having to get up multiple times to see what other books there are.
The mobile library and literacy unit would also provide easy access when doing Read to Someone or shared reading.
I want my students to be able to easily get books on their reading levels or interest level without having to dig through bins of unorganized books. This cart would be very helpful in organizing the classroom library so that each student can access the books they need to be successful.
The mobility aspect of this library is amazing because we could even take it to our outdoor classroom and students will still have access to the books in our classroom. We would not only have the opportunity to learn outside but also have our library there with us to get what we need. My students would have much easier access and organization to their classroom library and it would also hold them accountable for keeping our library organized.
