Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I teach Kindergarten in the City of Chicago. My students enter Kindergarten lacking essential skills. They cannot recognize letters or numbers, can barely write their names, and cannot form complete sentences when speaking. By the end of the year, my students have come full circle. They can now recognize letters and print their names beautifully. They can speak in complete sentences, and also write and read their complete sentences. I would like to implement more activities in the classroom that will increase the success rates of my students. I feel that making activities fun and engaging for children is the key to making them life-long learners. The activities that I have chosen will certainly enrich and enhance the knowledge of my students. My students have full day Kindergarten which consists of: journals, the daily focus (our daily lessons and activities), reading, math, science or social studies, and language arts. I also implement art and movement activities to actively engage my students in learning. I want my students to enjoy learning, not be overwhelmed by it. These activities will make learning enjoyable and help to lay a solid foundation for my students to build upon in their later years. Leaving Kindergarten with a solid foundation will help my students be successful for years to come. Thank you for your consideration!
