My Project

My students love centers! It is a time of day they are self-directed to play and make connections to the books we read. I recall how excited my students where last year when Dramatic Play became a Pizza Shop. It quickly became a favorite center where students acted out the story, The Little Red Hen Makes Pizza, and took on character roles. They also made pizza for their friends and even delivered it. Another favorite was the Ice Cream shop in Dramatic Play and the sand table. I can still see students lined up to purchase ice cream.

This year, I look forward to creating new engaging centers using all these materials that connect books and centers and get children talking about texts.

I am really excited about the stones and forest animals. These tools will allow children to recreate the story, Come Play With Me at blocks or in the sand table. In addition they could be available in the math center as children use play money to create a forest with a classmate. Also in the writing center to support students as they create forest animal books. I look forward to seeing my students using these materials and making deeper connections to the books we read across the year.
