Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My self-contained special needs classroom consists of amazing, unique, loving, energetic little humans! They are vibrant and brave, active, and creative! My students are diagnosed with autism, Down syndrome, ADHD and OCD. Some are verbal, some are non-verbal. All of my students have deficits in communication skills, social skills, and struggle to process sensory information.
Our classroom is bare, our supplies non-existent, yet my amazing students come to school every single day.
Our needs are high while funding is nonexistent, especially with all the extra funding needed for PPE to protect everyone from COVID-19. We are a Title I school which means there was already no funding coming in for needed supplies.
My students deserve the very best and at the very least, deserve the bare minimum that is necessary to help them self-regulate, reduce stress, and provide important sensory stimulation.
My Project
My students love story time. I would love to bring hands on materials into literacy time with activity books, discovery books, storytelling kids and having a read along CD for when they need to unwind in our calm down corner.
My students need a hands on approach to learning as they learn in different ways.
Each child has a unique wonderful personality that they bring into our class. They all love to learn! By incorporating a multimodal approach to learning helps them thrive in every aspect of our every day.
