My Students

My first graders are fun and excited about learning. I have 18 students from various cultural backgrounds. Most of my students are from low income homes and some are Spanish speaking. Many students come from single parent homes. Several are being raised by grandparents or other family members. They come to school excited and ready to learn in an enriching and engaging environment.

My students really enjoy hands-on learning and investigating science concepts.

They do well when they can work in small groups or in pairs. They are more engaged when they are able to manipulate material and discuss with their peers what they are doing. These first grade students really enjoy exploring the world around them and learning how it connects to themselves.

My Project

My students enjoy playing games and engaging in hands on activities with their peers. They also need to work on foundational skills and word building. The board games will provide students with word building practice while also helping students engage with one another. They will be learning how to interact socially as well as practice academics. Students will enjoy manipulating letter tiles and cards in order to build words. They can work with partners to build the words and help each other sound out words. These games will be used in centers and some small groups. Most all the games involve long vowel patterns which is the focus of first grade.
