My school is a Title I school where 80% of students live in poverty. As a result, many students have not had opportunities, advantages, or varied life experiences that help develop the whole child.
Despite these challenges, my first graders are fantastic little people!
My students are so eager to learn. They soak up knowledge like little sponges. They smile, they laugh, and they tell me how much they love me. One student drew a picture of the two of us dressed as superheroes. I asked him what my superhero power is, and he said "Love."
What a great job I have being able to influence the lives of these precious children! They are so deserving of every good thing life has to offer.
My Project
First graders are still learning to read, and small group time is vital to helping students learn to read. While the teacher is guiding one group, the other students need literacy center activities that help promote student growth in reading.
Literacy centers should be engaging, effective, and fun!
These materials were specifically chosen because they offer students the opportunity to complete the activities independently while having so much fun they forget they are actually working on reading skills!
The activities are simple enough to allow 6 and 7-year-olds to complete them independently. The chosen activities provide self-checks so students can check their own work for accuracy. Fantastic!
