We are building scholars that will be empowered by their knowledge and not hindered by their circumstances. Our students are located in the international corridor of our city. We want to build their grit to get them where they want to be by nurturing a mindset of success. We focus on in-house volunteer projects and local community projects, as well as passion projects. Passion projects are established by students researching and investigating topics that they are interested in and want to pursue.
I want my scholars to see how they progress through the school year by keeping their projects and activities in a folder from this grant. They will be able to take their folders home at the end of the year. They will have three centers where they will be writing and illustrating. Reading Literacy, Computer Literacy, and Information Literacy.
They will be using these pencils, pens, and markers to journal about Thinking, Creating, Sharing and Growing.
In the Reading Literacy Center, they will use the pens, pencils and markers to journal about the library book they read that week. In the Information Literacy Center, they will learn and reflect on their own science topic chosen at the beginning of the year. They will be recording research using the pens, pencils and markers. In the Computer Literacy Center, scholars will utilize and analyze websites that can be used for researching social studies topics.
The folders and storage for the folders will be used to keep work together and allow scholars to take their work home at the end of the school year. The folders will contain notes on doing research in science, notes on websites they can use to research social study topics and notes on books and series they want to checkout during the summer.
