My students love to read and they are even more curious when it comes to hands-on activities. Second graders are inquisitive and like to create and construct. They love being read to and reading to others.
By incorporating literature into math and science topics, my students will actively develop listening skills, analyze and relate literature to meaningful concepts, while applying those concepts to hands-on activities.
My students will be so excited to incorporate their love of reading into math and science.
My Project
Second graders are full of wonder and curiosity. Promoting literacy in math and science, in addition to the use of manipulatives, will help students stay engaged through active listening and hands-on activities.
With creating a math and science library, these new books and hands-on manipulatives, will allow students to choose from a variety of literature that will allow them to independently explore math and science concepts.
It will increase student engagement, overall reading skills, and over understanding of newly presented math and science topics, since they will have access to multiple modalities.
By incorporating literature and hands-on engagement across curricula, students can predict, analyze, and apply concepts more readily based on their independent levels of understanding through the use of meaningful materials.
