By creating areas in my classroom with various flexible seating options rather than the traditional desk and chair, it will give my students the opportunity to pick where they work in the room and with whom. It will also allow them to change their locations and positions as needed. The primary benefits of flexible seating in our classroom will include an increase in peer collaboration, the implementation of new teaching strategies, reduced extended seating in rigid chairs, and time-on task. I have seen how giving students the choice to move around the room can positively affect their on-task engagement and overall demeanor. I am requesting 4 Neorok stools to be used at a group work table and 4 Disc O Sit cushions to be used for collaborative floor work. Your support will help foster independence and time on-task, as students will have the opportunity to move around the classroom and engage in peer collaboration.
