Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year our classroom has received a large number of EL students and we have tried to implement novel studies for students to engage with the text and apply their literacy skills. Currently we do not have any larger group texts in Spanish for students which are high-interest texts. I hope to slowly build this library of novel study options for students in both English and their home language (in this case Spanish).

La Casa en Mango Street is an engaging and relevant text to the students and community our school is based in, and by providing this text in Spanish, students practice biliteracy and develop skills that can transfer to English literacy as well.
