My Project

I'm biased, but I know the best place to be in the entire school building is the library. As a rural high school librarian, I want my students to view the school library as a place that provides books for pleasure and informational reading, homework and research help, technology tips, as well as a place to explore new hobbies.

Over a year ago, I began offering my rural HS students a monthly subscription box that includes a library book (chosen specifically for them based on the genre they prefer), a stress buster activity (examples include diamond dot artwork and crochet kits), a gluten-free snack (examples include beef jerky and pretzels), a scratch and sniff bookmark and a vinyl literacy-based sticker.

Throughout the 2024-2025 school year, I would like to include some DIY stress buster activities in the monthly LitCrate subscription boxes. To celebrate National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWiMo) in November, I would like to include a writing journal. The other DIY projects include rock painting and chalkboard-painted coasters.

The only rule I have for those receiving a LitCrate is that the book previously received in a LitCrate needs to be returned prior to receiving the next box. Everything else in the box is theirs to keep.

My goals for this project are to provide for those who have little time to visit the library, to help my students relax (through reading for enjoyment and the stress buster activity), and to introduce students to new-to-them books from their favorite genres.
