Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our student population is diverse with students of various income levels, ethnicity, and religions in one classroom. This diversity presents unique challenges for our community. They have enjoyed learning about other countries and cultures in an effort to better themselves and understand those around them.

These students have the desire to succeed in their post-secondary life, but they need help acquiring the skills necessary for either college or a career.

Most of our students go on to attend college, either at the community college level or a four-year university.

My Project

My students need more exposure to people from diverse backgrounds. Airline tickets would add up quickly, but some new books featuring characters from different backgrounds and with a wide array of experiences is the next best thing!

These books will provide students with thought-provoking opportunities to learn from people outside of their community.

I have requested multiple copies of most of the books so that students can choose from these titles for their book club unit during the second semester. This unit will require students complete an extension project of their own invention, potentially a TED talk, ad campaign, or podcast, that will bring awareness on campus to at least one of the issues in the book they read.
