Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our district has provided us with a new online reading program, Amira, which requires students to read out loud to their computer. It is an amazing way to get students engaged in their reading as well as monitor their fluency. We are lucky enough to have been given 10 sets of headphones with microphones per class. The students who have used the microphones have shown increased confidence in their reading. Amira is able to hear them better and give them more accurate feedback on their reading. In first grade, we would love to give all students the ability to have that experience!
In this project, I am requesting 50 sets of headphones with microphones to share across first grade at my school.
We are hoping with the headphones that students will have increased reading fluency and confidence in their reading!
In addition to helping the students with this online program, it also helps our ESL students to become more familiar with talking to a computer—a requirement for WIDA testing. Odyssey has a large percentage of students who are in the ESL program. I am excited for the opportunity to have them be more prepared for their test this year!
