This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are highly motivated, and anxious to embrace their new technology ruled reality which is a fully remote school day. They are at a disadvantage because most of their parents were in the service industry and due to the pandemic are currently unemployed. Most have only the bare minimum as far as supplies and equipment and are struggling to meet the challenges of online learning. Our school was able to provide the students with Chromebooks which were already being used while school was in-person, but any other equipment or accessory that makes remote learning easier or more accessible is not provided. Often, our students are competing with siblings who are also attending school remotely, parents who are also home or in daycare situations where the noise level is not conducive to learning.

My Project

My students are required to listen to lessons and complete assignments remotely. They are required to attend classes for 6 hours a day with minimal breaks. Many are in situations with other online learners or at-home workers who are providing a great deal of noise distraction. I often notice there is a lot of background noise when they turn on their mics.

The headphones will particularly benefit the diverse learners, most of whom have attention deficits and require additional services.

These are the students I support in science, civics, history, and language arts.

Because of the noise going on in their individual situations, many miss key points of conversations or are reluctant to speak. With noise-canceling headphones and a dedicated mic, they will be able to hear their lessons with greater clarity and be able to contribute to online discussions, which will greatly enhance their learning experience.
