My Students

My school is an urban school with a diverse student population. The school motto, "Learn with Joy" permeates the school culture. You can feel it when you walk through the school doors.

The students in my second grade classroom have a thirst for learning.

I am continually amazed by their sense of curiosity and wonder.

Each of my students has a different story to tell and come from very different backgrounds. However, one thing they all have in common is an enthusiasm for learning.

My Project

Our class is fortunate to have a classroom set of Kindles. Our principal just purchased a Raz Kids license which is an online guided reading program. A classroom set of headphones will allow our class of 22 students to use them at the same time without noise causing a distraction.

Many of our students need to listen to the stories on Raz Kids since they are not yet able to read independently.

Listening to stories provides many benefits to young readers. It provides a model of fluent reading and helps readers become good listeners. Vocabulary acquisition is another added benefit.
