My classroom this year is full of true scientists-children who are inquisitive, problem-solving, and meticulous about keeping data to help them understand the world around them. The students belong to the most diverse school in the county but yet is one of the most limited in terms of technology and resources. What my students lack in resources at this Title I school, they make up for in character and passion.
I am truly blessed to have such inspired students that understand the value of hard-work and responsibility to their community.
This is unusual to find at the middle school level, and I am grateful that my students can also inspire me to be a better educator and citizen. Thank you in advance for considering my project.
My Project
Having access to their own set of headphones, students will be able to engage with our existing technology more readily. Currently students have to share headphones when required. All teachers of the students core classes (English, Social Studies, Math, and Science) will be able to use these headphones to prepare 21st Century lessons, create differentiated content, and engage students on an individual level. For English, students who are struggling readers will benefit from audio versions of the novels. In Social Studies, students can access primary source and informational videos to help them study how human choices impact change. In Math, students will use the headphones to focus their individual learning on computer software directly tailored to their needs. In Science, students will be using headphones to view demonstrations as well as create and listen to science songs.
Many of our students cannot afford their own headphones.
This project will ensure equal opportunity for all students to access the learning in a personal way.
