I am Mrs Sansone, I teach at BFE School. My class consists of 15 students, and we are an integrated classroom. My students are a mix of hands-on, visual, and auditory learners. We learn through play and the TOOLS OF THE MIND curriculum in our room. The curriculum calls for six main centers. The centers include clocks, literacy, art, dramatic play, table toys, and science. The main idea of the center stays the same, but the topic changes each month that is taught within the center. Sometimes our dramatic play is a kitchen and other times it's a vet, we change depending on the theme and try to be creative to keep the students interested.
I have noticed many students will not go to the literacy area unless a teacher is in that center, causing a lack of exposure in this area.
I asked the class why they replied "We like being read too". As an educator and mother, I know the importance of being read. I read with the class each day before we leave, but I am doing small group lessons during centers, so I can not sit and read to our friends who might want to be in literacy every day.
Our classroom and I would appreciate donations to help us reach our goal.
Below are some of the benefits students gain from being read aloud.
Language development: Reading aloud helps children develop their vocabulary, comprehension, and communication skills.
Cognitive development: Listening to stories helps children develop their imagination, critical thinking skills, and memory.
Emotional development: Reading aloud helps children understand and process complex emotions and develop empathy and compassion.
