My Students
My students are learners and leaders. We strive to help students find their voice and create an environment that is safe and nurturing. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I strive to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are excited about learning.
They are most excited about learning to read and developing their thinking strategies. Literacy is a strong focus in kindergarten and many of our students do not have the opportunity to spend time reading or listening to books at home. Reading and listening to books is an essential part of early development that fosters strong readers and writers in the future.
My Project
Providing my students with a mentor text library to learn from is key to developing my students thinking strategies and love for reading. Through research and experience, these books have been chosen to teach a variety of skills taught throughout the entire year.
Providing students with examples high quality literature is vital.
Mentor texts are pieces of literature that you—both teacher and student—can return to and reread for many different purposes. Using these mentor texts as read alouds, think alouds and in the hands of students will inspire them to keep reading and writing. It will allow them to learn from all types genres and develop a deeper understanding of literature.
