Storytelling is the oldest form of human entertainment. From before the first book was ever written, the human race retold their favorite stories orally. In an age where information is all around us, it is still very important for children to listen and absorb enjoyable stories.
My 21 third grade students love to learn.
We are a small rural farming community. Being small and rural means that my students have a wide range of abilities within the classroom. The class sizes in my district are perfect for learning how to function in a classroom community. My students love to listen to each other's daily stories. They love to relate to stories and passages they hear or learn about during school. This is important so that they can relate their own lives to the outside global world.
My Project
The lives of my students will change by using 1 of the 6 iPod shuffles and charger requested as a daily resource. Young readers need to expand their minds not only by reading daily, but by stretching themselves through their interest and activities. My students will be able to use the iPods to increase their fluency and comprehension. It will be available to all students in the classroom every year. Each level, from emergent readers through advanced readers will be able to expand their learning abilities through the use of this technology. The advanced learners will be able to listen to stories that stretch their thinking abilities. The struggling readers will be able to hear fluent readers to build their own abilities. They will also better comprehend the stories to practice for their own reading skills. It is important for the students to expand themselves beyond the current classroom curriculum to build their own interest and knowledge. This is a small technology that can produce big results.
In our global world it is monumental to keep all students interested and updated about the changing would around us through the use simple technologies.
