This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are special to me because they are challenged in day to day life survival modes. My students are living in low income, single parent or grandparent homes lacking access to middle-income families daily routines. The school is listed as Title I and the ray of sunshine for the surrounding community.
My students are sad when the school day ends because they go home to situations of homelessness, staying with friends, homes lacking in heating, electricity, and basic food supplies.
At dismissal, one student commented, “ I don’t want to go. I like it here. “
My Project
One iPad will allow my students to work with a partner in a station listening and responding to good literature. The students will be able to listen to selective stories online and create a story sequence or art piece to tell the main idea or highlight the main character in the story.
The second iPad will allow for the students to work in a math station where they will be challenged to explore, discover and interact with numbers and math concepts in Prekindergarten terms.
Shapes, colors, subitizing and spatial awareness is a very abstract concept for 3 and 4 year old students. The more exposure, both in real time and tech time, the more advance and prepared the little people will be ready kindergarten math skills.
