My project needs to create a listening center for struggling readers. It will include a CD/cassette player and books to help develop Phonemic Awareness and Literacy.

South Lebanon Elementary School contains a diverse population of about 400 students. Approximately 1/3 of our students are on free/reduced lunch and many others have needs that are helped through other sources. I teach 2nd Grade. To help meet our diverse needs, we flex group for Reading and Language Arts. I teach the students who are performing below grade level. These students need very specific interventions every day along with rich learning experiences. Many of these students do not have books in the home and do not visit libraries outside of school. One way I have found that engages the students is to listen to books and stories on CD's. I would like to purchase materials to stock listening centers that would help provide literacy education. These activities would promote Phonemic Awareness, Fluency and more importantly a desire to learn! You will help to enrich many deserving students reading skills through providing them with quality learning experiences.
