This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In my class, we work together as a team to reach academic goals. My students are smart, capable and incredibly passionate. I consider every single student that walks through my door a leader. They like dancing, hot chips, martial arts and scary books. I'm lucky to have them as my students.
I work in an urban school teaching fourth grade academic intervention.
Most of my students are 2 to 3 years behind grade level. My typical day consists of pulling small groups to work on literacy, phonics and math. During math and literacy, I work with a group of 3-6 students on a lesson, while the other group works independently on iPads. I try my best to make every day fast paced, challenging and exciting for my students.
My Project
My students use their iPads every day for differentiate instruction. On their iPads, students spend a majority of time accessing a digital library. Young readers need multiple exposures to a text to fully comprehend it. The headphones will enable the students to listen to stories as often as they need to complete their comprehension tasks. The headphones will drastically reduce competing noise and help my students to focus their attention more effectively.
A lot of my students dislike reading, so it's important for me to make it a joyful experience.
With this project, I would love to provide a comfy chair for the student who has shown the most growth to celebrate their learning. I'm hoping the chair would also help students feel at home as they read. The chair would also allow for my students to take a break and self-regulate during times they need to calm down.
In this project, I've also included a few items to help enhance the learning of my students. White board markers for spelling work, sharpener and pencils for writing and staples for the maintenance of my word wall.
