Help me give my students a portable CD player and books to allow for a listening station. Each student will be able to independently listen to stories, increasing reading/phonics skills and aiding comprehension.
For most of my students, kindergarten is their very first time in an actual educational setting. Each day they enter the classroom excited to see what fun and engaging activities they will be participating in. My favorite phrase is when I hear students say, "This is the best day ever!" It never gets old hearing that they are enjoying every activity I have taken the time to create.
This year, I am integrating a daily literacy station into my curriculum.
A literacy station consists of an area where students are able to listen to books being read to them. This will require a portable CD player, headphones (which we have), an adapter so that multiple students can listen at one time, and books with CDs so they can follow along with the story. Students will be gaining valuable social and literary skills while they work cooperatively in a small group setting.
My Project
When a child enters kindergarten, they are establishing a solid foundation for future academic success. During this period, children develop primary skills that form the foundations of reading, counting, and social interaction.
A literacy station is designed to provide appropriate materials, such as a portable CD player, headphone adapter (for multiple listeners) and audiobooks, to help students work independently or collaboratively (with partners or in small groups) to meet literacy goals.
As of right now, our classroom does not have a working CD player or headphone adapter for more than one student to participate in the listening station at one time. These materials would be greatly appreciated by myself and my little ones.
