My Students

I teach in a low-income school full of hardworking, passionate teachers and students. My students come from diverse backgrounds. Most of my students deal with the daily struggles of life in poverty with some of them in extreme poverty. Many of them have family members dealing with substance abuse, incarceration, and disabilities.

Working with families dealing with such great challenges has opened my eyes to the needs in our city.

I strive to push my students forward so that they will see themselves as learners belonging in our school community and begin to dream big dreams for the futures.

My Project

My school has been gradually adding technology the last few years. We work hard to implement engaging projects and practice with Ipads, computers, etc. throughout our day. Unfortunately, many of these activities require good headphones so that the students can hear the program.

Most of my students come from homes struggling to make ends meet.

When there's more month than money, headphones are an expense that many of our families are unable to purchase. We have headphones at the school, but they are of such poor quality that they often only last a few uses. This causes great frustration.

I have 12 sets of headphones from a previous grant. I am requesting 12 more sets so that each student (plus two extras in case of new students) are able to use a quality, reliable pair of headphones to work throughout the day.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
