My Students

I am lucky to be in the unique position of teaching a wonderful group of 4-6 year olds. We have a Pre-K and Kindergarten split class which gives each student the flexibility to learn at their own pace. Through meaningful shared experiences during this sensitive period of development, these children are capable of building an amazing classroom community of helpful, caring, and curious learners. Every day is an adventure with this rambunctious group of 4, 5, and 6 year olds!

My Project

The ability to listen to a text while following along is so beneficial in early childhood for the development of early literacy skills. When children listen to a text while following the words, it helps them build skills such as word recognition, reading fluency, reading prosody, and comprehension. The addition of a listening center in the classroom provides an opportunity to develop these skills in small group settings. The ability to connect several headphones to one listening source allows several children to benefit from a read aloud all at one time. The Bluetooth capability of the boombox allows children to connect a device such as a tablet or iPad to the listening center, which can be used to listen to books, prerecorded readings by me, and even prerecorded directions for a small group activity in the case of my absence. This device would be useful and beneficial on many levels in our classroom.
