This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Analytical Writing Traits are so important to teach to my low income, ELL (English Language Learners) students. They typically enter kindergarten knowing 10,000 words less than other students with a higher economic status.

As a fourth grade teacher, it is my job to prepare my students to write and to be able to pass the fifth grade writing test here in Nevada.

We are a Title I low income neighborhood school, and we offer education to our students that will give them the chance to improve their lives.

My Project

At a recent conference I attended, I received a list of “Mentor Texts” that will provide these much needed writing examples to my students. I am requesting books that include examples of Ideas, Voice, Organization, Conventions, Word Choice, and Sentence Fluency, which are the writing traits I focus on in my instruction.

These books are important to my class because they present the information in a colorful and engaging manner that can be reviewed over and over again.

This will also help other fourth grade teachers, as I can allow them to borrow these books for their lessons too!
