My Students

Our students love to learn and come to school. Our school has a diverse student body with over twenty countries represented. Our classroom populations academic skill levels range from early readers to fluent readers and everything in between. We have language barriers in the classroom as well, but we always find a way to communicate to one another and celebrate our differences.

Being a magnet school in the Twin Cities, we are an open enrollment school for new-to-the-country and new-to-the-district students; we also have a significant population experiencing homelessness.

Our school's focus is on the arts. We value the differences our students bring to our classrooms in the arts and academics

90% of our students receive free and reduced lunch and struggle to buy supplies.

I want our students to have the same educational opportunities that other students have despite being under resourced.

My Project

My classroom has students reading at all different levels. Some are above grade level while others are just learning English.

A class set of headsets will allow them to access materials above their current reading level.

That way they can access the same grade level curriculum as other students. It will also allow the students to record their own voices as they read difficult aloud texts or their own writing in English or another language. Having non native speakers record their voices and then share them with the class, where sometimes they are too shy to do it live, is very powerful.

My students and I are really looking forward to having these headsets.
