This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As we have had opportunities to learn together this year, my students have become a supportive community. They encourage each other to try challenging tasks and are quick to congratulate even the smallest successes!
They are becoming readers!
Some started the year able to read simple sight words, others began knowing only a few letters. Now, they are all excited by books and motivated to read! It is my desire to help them expand this motivation as they continue to progress as readers.
My Project
The listening center is an engaging, independent activity that my students will visit at least once every week. They will enjoy listening to their favorite stories as they read along. When the story is finished, they will be able to draw and write to show their comprehension and opinions of the story!
My students will use these materials to continue making progress on their reading and comprehension skills!
Hearing fluent readers can also support students' own reading fluency. Students who are still working on identifying sight words will be able to see and hear these words in context. There are so many wonderful benefits to a productive listening center!
