This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a lively bunch. They are sweet and spunky. They enjoy music, dancing and talking.... A LOT! As hard as it is to get things done over the chatter, it is good to hear since we have many ELL's / Special Ed students and talking (communicating) is their bridge to learning. Many of them have been with each other since Kindergarten which has fostered a close bond.

Regardless of whether they speak English, live in a shelter, or have some type of disability, they are enthusiastic to come to school and learn.

My Project

I work in a title I school. Since my students come from hard working families from a variety of backgrounds, many struggle with language acquisition. They learn best using multiple modalities and need different ones available to them in the classroom. This listening center will be used by all students on a rotating schedule so they can be exposed to texts both on and above their level. It will enhance reading and literacy in the classroom. It will allow me to not only incorporate silent reading and partner reading, but also listening to reading into my daily center routine. My lower level readers will especially benefit because they will be able to follow along with the story as it is read to them.
