My Students
Do you remember the first time you listened to a story on tape and you read it all by yourself? Just think of the joy on the faces of my kindergrtners who can listen with headphones to a story all by themselves absorbed in the sights and sounds of it all! That's what I want for my kindergartners!
I teach kindergarten in a high need newly formed K-8 school that is struggling to provide the basic resources for a diverse population of 36 languages alongside an all inclusion autism special education program.
I would like to provide more for my young kindergarteners, especially for those students who are just learning English for the first time. It is essential that these young learners listen to stories over and over again, but our school lacks both the equipment and the stories on Cd's! With a multicultural school population, many of our students lack the opportunity to listen to stories in English at home. Hearing stories on Cd's at school would allow for opportunities that just do not happen in my multicultural, multiethnic students' homes!
My Project
You would provide that extra link to the rehearsal and repetition that my young learners desperately need to become successful readers! I am requesting 2 sets of CD players each equipped with 2 headphones so that my multicultural youngsters can listen and learn together! I am also requesting familiar stories that have rhythm, rhyme and repetition that will enhance and enrich their learning of the English language in a fun and inspiring way!

Listening with a buddy to familiar stories that we read and reread in class would allow my second language learners to soar by providing the necessary rehearsal and review so essential to their success as readers!
