Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach third grade at an urban, public, bilingual school. The majority of my students are low-income, English language learners.

Is Spanish not as good as English? Some students might wonder if they compared our libraries and class sets of books in both languages. We have many sets of books for students to follow along with a read aloud in English, but our Spanish materials are limited.

My team teacher and I would like to provide our students with an exciting opportunity to read along with a class read aloud of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe... in Spanish! We would like to provide each student with a copy of the book, so they can really "get into" the reading. For most students, understanding advanced literature in English is a struggle. This will be an opportunity for them to enjoy and engage truly wonderful literature in their dominant language.

As 7-, 8-, and 9-year olds, our students are just now beginning to understand and embrace good children's literature beyond picture books. With your support, they can take part in a wonderful learning experience with classic literature that they will likely remember for the rest of their lives!
