This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How would you feel to have an interactive part in a musical experience with 499 other students? Students will learn about the rain forest, draw an animal's face in art, learn to write, sing and play rhythms in music and participate a school musical of a rewritten version "Lion King".

This is a K-6 school and all 1,000 students will participate in the musical experience.

This is a Title I school, basically meaning low income. There are highly diversified ethnicities. Performance will be during the school day to insure all students have the opportunity to be in this musical experience. The purpose is for the students to feel they have succeeded and be proud of their participation. The teachers at this school collaborate to insure a cohesive learning environment for our students. This entire unit revolves around the Rain Forest as a theme with a high emphasis on how music fits into their life. Students are excited to try new things and learn all they can. They are happy children even though many of their home lives may not be a happy place. Teachers love these students and do all they can to help them achieve their best.

My Project

Can you imagine 500 students sitting on a cafeteria floor, each with their own pair of rhythm sticks, playing in unison a variety of rhythms for each of the five songs they will sing? A stage presentation of a shortened version of "The Lion King" will be done, but then when the singing starts, every student will participate as well as some of our administration and staff! K-6th graders. Rhythm sticks, partners, music, motion will all be incorporated! I can't wait!

Many of our students want to attend night music or school programs, but cannot because of many reasons.

It is unfortunate that these students will never know the joy of performing and being a part of a larger production. There is a value in seeing the fruit of your labor. They need to feel pride, accomplishment, the feeling of a job well done. The only way to insure this for every student is to perform during the school day. Each students needs to learn rhythm, it is a part of life!
