My Students
Paris is one of the oldest schools in Greenville, SC and we work to have the best quality instruction possible for all students at our school.
Our mission, in cooperation with the home and community is to develop confident, contributing life-long learners by providing innovative educational experiences which emphasize critical and creative thinking.
My class consists of 19 hard-working first graders. Of those 19, two are English learners, two receive resource services, and two are in speech. They all work so hard and do their personal best to contribute to our classroom community.
My Project
My philosophy of education was strengthened by Irene J. Fountas and Gay Su Pinnell. Their work is based on the theory that learning is a constructive activity.
“The primary classroom is the laboratory in which children discover literacy: but the most essential element is the teacher who provides the raw material—demonstrations, explanations, appropriate materials, feedback and encouraging and revealing interactions.”
Through Donor's Choose, I am asking for help in providing those raw materials for my children. Linda Hoyt published a teacher's resource guide called Interactive-Read Alouds that help teachers use books to teach common comprehension skills such as compare and contrast, sequencing or cause and effect to name a few. The money will be used to purchase the suggested texts that link to my standards and build fluency and comprehension through poetry and readers theater.
Employing multiple layers of student engagement, incorporating opportunities for movement, watching them grow intellectually and have a great time doing so, is what makes my job as an educator so rewarding.
