Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are terrific young people trying to make their best lives in rural Alabama. Our school serves K-12 students from rural Alabama. Our school is a Title I school due to the intense poverty here. Nearly all our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students have never left the county.

Help my students bridge gaps in prior knowledge by letting them see examples of animals they might never have the chance to see otherwise.

Please consider funding our need! No child should miss out on a top-notch education because of a where they live.

My Project

Prior knowledge is vital to learning. Students from high poverty areas often lack important life experiences that build prior knowledge. Many of my students have never visited a zoo, taken a beach trip, or hiked through the woods. For many of my students, their only experiences with the great variety of the animal kingdom is limited to television or maybe livestock.

Students need to see good examples of animals they may never see in their daily life in order to build connections for learning more!

Please consider giving my students these wonderful specimen kits. Seeing new and varied members of the animal kingdom can build knowledge, experience, and engagement.
