Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I want to create a calm and happy environment in the library using a variety of LED lights. Studies have shown that LED lights are the closest to natural light, which improves behavior, focus, and makes us happier. Scholars with disabilities also visit the library so it is important that the environment is inclusive and supporting of their needs. Several of these scholars require calm spaces and great role models in order to participate.
Having different types of LED lighting, lamps and strings of lights, placed around the library can actually help improve all scholars behavior and academic performance.
My hope is that the variety of lights will enhance scholar's feelings of calmness, and lower scholar's stress and anxiety. The goal is to place the LED lights, lamps, and light covers strategically around the library so it creates spaces where scholars are able to read or work in a creative station.
This year I teach Social Skills to scholars in general education and special education. Our school implements an inclusive model, which means our special education scholars are included in the general education classroom for part of the day. All scholars matter.
