Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My K/1 class consists of 13 children with very unique sensory, emotional, communication, and social needs. Most of the students in my class have a diagnosis of autism, and therefore shine in a structured classroom environment using visual schedules, visual supports, sensory input, and multiple learning stations. They require an environment with multi-sensory opportunities to learn and display their knowledge of skills. Creativity and having a vivid imagination are just a few of the many skills these children have and continue to show through play and art they are creating at school.

These items will help give my students a vibrant, imaginative dramatic play space where they can explore real-world roles, build social skills, and bring their creativity to life through hands-on play experiences.

Dramatic play is an essential part of early childhood education because it allows students to learn through imagination, creativity, and social interaction. In the classroom, dramatic play is especially important during center time, free choice, and structured play-based learning activities. These moments give students the opportunity to explore real-world roles, practice communication skills, and build confidence in a safe and engaging environment. Through dramatic play, students develop important social-emotional skills such as cooperation, problem-solving, and empathy. They learn how to take turns, share ideas, and work together to create meaningful play scenarios. Dramatic play also supports language development, as students naturally engage in conversations, storytelling, and role-playing different perspectives. The materials provided will be used to create a dynamic and inviting dramatic play center. Items such as costumes, play kitchen supplies, pretend food, dolls, and themed props will allow students to act out everyday experiences like cooking, shopping, caring for others, or working in community roles. These hands-on materials encourage students to make connections between their learning and the world around them.
