Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the privilege of working with 130 seventh graders as they navigate the awkward years of middle school. From ages 12 - 16, the students you are choosing to help are full of an unyielding optimism for their future. Over 90% of these incredible students qualify for free or reduced price lunch and face so many other obstacles in their lives.
Despite the barriers these students may face, they work hard to embrace the nature of scientific inquiry.
These students are going through what can often be one of the most emotional and difficult times in their lives and deserve the same opportunities as their peers.
My Project
We recently have made it a priority for our daily announcements to include as many students and staff as possible. The results are announcements that positively impact our school culture and keep our staff feeling like a united school family. Still, we are consistently running into technology issues from limited resources.
Watching students shift from watching announcements to engaging with announcements has been a powerful transformation.
We need to give our students the basic resources like another video camera, SD cards and adapters to properly maintain daily announcements. We need these materials because they are essential to continuing the success of our announcements. We want our announcements to continue to grow and really maximize the impact they can have on our school culture.
