My students are all second and third graders in a neighborhood that struggles economically. About one hundred percent of our students qualify for free lunches and breakfast. That, however, does not diminish their excitement for learning, especially if you incorporate things they like doing.
They are smart and very capable students with a true love of learning through real experiences.
The economic challenges do, however, have an impact on what they have available to help them learn. These are changing times and we have to constantly look for ways to not only keep students engaged, but also build their skills to prepare for potential future careers. We know that the future will require critical thinking and problem-solving skills, but it also requires a stronger background and understanding of science and technology. My students love hands-on learning.
I want to give my students exposure to job fields in the broadcasting industry and let them see what things are like. We have a camera of live broadcasts but I want to expand to a 2 camera system, one for the anchor desk and one for the green screen desk, guest speakers. desk.
These kids are great at running the equipment for a live broadcast and I want to take them to the next level.
They are ready.
We also have local meteorologists and reporters come in and speak with the students and give them pointers and talk about how to prep educationally to go into the broadcasting industry.
This is an important next step in the growth of our video recording and broadcast lab. Through the broadcast students are encouraged to get better at reading and oral presentation skills as well.
The wifi is the final component needed to be able to use our new Viewsonic panel anywhere in the building there is an electrical outlet. Right now we have to be near electrical outlets and network drops which limits our abilities in the atrium or garden.
