Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My classroom is the first academic experience for many of my students who will start school this fall. I want to foster and facilitate a love for learning, exploration, creativity and a sense of community where all are respected.

Although my school is a Title I school where 98% of the students are below the poverty level, I believe with an environment conducive for age and developmentally appropriate learning that the skies are the limit for my students.

I know with the help from donors that I can achieve an environment that will have students eager to come to school and excited about learning and experiencing new things that they never dreamed about.

I'm setting the tone and building blocks for future academic success. At the end of this school year they will successfully graduate from Pre-K and move up to Kindergarten in 13 to 17 yrs. they will be graduating from High school and College.

With the right motivation and a positive first academic experience, the realization of these students achieving and succeeding in life is extremely possible. Instilling the right mindset for learning early will have a lasting affect.

My Project

The Color-Changing Light Table and accessories will allow the students to truly see learning in a different light. This Table and manipulatives will heighten the degree of engagement for the students with hands-on, colorful, tactile manipulatives. The more engaged and focused the students are, the higher the outcome of success increases.

The Space-Saver Color-Changing Light Table will captivate and motivate the students' minds to focus on the goals and objectives of the activities presented.

A focused mind enables the student to grasp the concept in a fun and engaging manner. It also allows for a higher success rate of comprehension as a well as allowing the student to transfer knowledge gained from the Light Tables activity into other subject areas.

The Sensory Play Complete Set with the Sensory Tray will take sensory play to another level while keeping the materials contained in one area. When the student’s play with these sensory materials that are nontraditional they will delight in the idea of sensory exploration. The translucent balls, beads and rings with unique textures will illuminate on the table while illuminating their minds. The students will explore light, textures, and colors with these hands-on materials that are washable, keeping them sanitary.

The Light Table Alphabet Tracing Tiles will develop fine motor skills needed for writing. The children will place the translucent tile onto the lit table, lay a piece of paper on top and start tracing the letter underneath. Once they have traced the alphabet you can ask them what the letter is, corresponding picture and the corresponding sound of the picture on the tile while increasing literacy. This will create a level of success and confidence to write the alphabets without tracing and to sound out words.
